This piece was heavily inspired by Priscilla (2023). Sophia Coppola beautifully captured the duality of Priscilla Presley’s life in both the glamour and the loneliness through her use of color, location, and framing.
A woman stands in front of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign in the heat of summer, appearing sad. There’s no one on the streets around her and there’s two roads behind her leading in the same direction. I named this piece "Vegas Vacation" for my obvious love for the movie with the same title.
I wanted the piece to be up for interpretation. Is this 2023 or 1973? Is this girl important or is she just a normal person? Is she a drag queen that’s coming to Vegas to pursue her dreams? Has she lost hope for her dreams? Is she coming to Vegas for the first time? Is she leaving Vegas for the last time?
You decide.
